Before he was vying for presidential office or making headlines with his high-profile love life, you may remember that Kanye West — or should we say Ye? — began a musical empire with ground-breaking hip-hop back in the early 2000s. The journey from old Kanye to new has been explored in a three-part Netflix documentary "event" called jeen-yuhs, and we're now getting a sneak peek before its theatrical premiere next month.

Created by the filmmaking team of Coodie & Chike (a.k.a. Clarence "Coodie" Simmons and Chike Ozah) in partnership with TIME Studios and Creative Control, the project is said to feature over 20 years of footage and offers audiences the chance to "step inside the journey of Kanye West."

A synopsis further promises "an intimate and revealing portrait of Kanye West's experience, showcasing both his formative days trying to break through and his life today as a global brand and artist."

jeen-yuhs will debut at Sundance's virtual festival later this month, before arriving in select theatres on February 10. How its roll-out will be affected by Omicron-related cinema closures north of the border remains unclear. Act 1 makes its way to Netflix on February 16. In the meantime, you can watch the teaser below.
