The first act of Netflix's three-part, Coodie & Chike-directed documentary jeen-yuhs — which explores Kanye West's beginnings as a hip-hop visionary before, y'know, everything else — is arriving on February 16. Before that, however, the film is making its debut at the virtual Sundance Film Festival this Sunday (January 23).
Kanye fans are probably very excited by this news, but it seems like the man himself is decidedly not. Ye — who is credited as a producer on the film — took to Instagram today demanding that he be given final say in the editing and final product of Jeen-Yuhs, meaning he either hasn't seen the thing or has seen it and didn't like what he saw.
Kanye's message reads:
I'm going to say this kindly for the last time
I must get final edit and approval on this doc before it releases on Netflix
Open the edit room immediately so I can be in charge of my own image
Thank you in advance
The caption is capped off with a smiley emoji and a close-up photo of Kanye's face. Neither Netflix nor Kanye's collaborators on the film have responded publicly as of yet, but those hoping to actually watch this thing should probably keep their fingers crossed that Kanye isn't given the access he's demanding — given his track record of tinkering with and delaying projects, there's a pretty solid chance jeen-yuhs would never make it out of the "edit" room alive.
