The "Bad Habit" hitmaker was once a long jump superstar

Fresh off his acclaimed Gemini Rights capturing Best Progressive R&B Album honours at the 2023 Grammy Awards, Steve Lacy is the latest artist to have his mind blown by the exceptional fact-finding of Nardwuar the Human Serviette.

Getting together in the basement of Vancouver's Neptoon Records, Nardwuar asks Lacy about his first guitar, his go-to order at Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers, his athletic achievements in track and field events, his thoughts on the TikTok popularity of a sped-up version of his "Bad Habit," reflections on the Internet's Ego Death cover shoot, and how fans can tell he's having a good time onstage ("If I smile, or say something stupid") as opposed to a bad time onstage ("I'm probably smashing a camera down on the floor").

Gifts for Lacy include a vinyl copy of R. Stevie Moore's Glad Music, J. Dilla's "Fuck the Police" badge-shaped picture disc, more wax from Sa-Ra, Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers, Tony! Toni! Toné! and the Parliaments, a CD by the American jazz saxophonist Steve Lacy and a Nardwuar-branded effects pedal from San Diego's Satellite Amplifiers.

Lacy's Gemini Rights was named among Exclaim!'s 50 Best Albums of 2022, while "Bad Habit" was named among Exclaim!'s 25 Best Songs of 2022.

Nardwuar's recent interview subjects have included Lizzo, Wet Leg, Harry Styles, OFF!, Latto, Lee Fields, bbno$ and more.
