Less than a year after quietly marrying, Mount Eerie's Phil Elverum and actor Michelle Williams have separated.
According to People, a "source close to the situation" claims that "Michelle and Phil separated at the beginning of the year. It was an amicable split and they remain friends."
The pair's relationship and marriage was revealed last July in a Vanity Fair cover story about Williams. The pair met through a mutual friend and married in a small ceremony in the Adirondacks. Shortly thereafter, Elverum and his daughter, Agathe, moved to Brooklyn to live with Williams and her daughter, Matilda.
Both Elverum and Williams had raised young children as single parents following tragedy. Matilda's father — Williams' ex-partner and actor Heath Ledger — died of a drug overdose in 2008, when Matilda was three. Elverum's first wife, artist Geneviève Castrée (a.k.a. Woelv and Ô Paon), died of pancreatic cancer in 2016 when Agathe was 13 months old.
Castrée's death was the subject of Mount Eerie studio albums A Crow Looked at Me and Now Only, along with live album (after).
