Mexican Slang are enjoying a fair amount of buzz at the moment after the strong response to their new track "Blisters," so the timing was perfect for them to preview their forthcoming EP, The Velvet Castle, in a small, sweaty room. Annabelle Lee is a menacing front-person, whose snaking vocals wind up the surf-y, garage-grunge (garunge?) riffs, like Babes In Toyland on Ambien. Her support, bassist Jimmy Tony Billy and drummer Den Holm, were hammering away at their gear, also keeping the intensity level high. Their 18-minute set was an effective one, compactly delivering the goods, leaving us satisfied and giddy, but definitely hungry for more.
