MAUVEY has announced that his new mixtape Before the Album 2: A Brief Overview will arrive on April 14 via 604 Records. The 16-track project is the follow-up mixtape to November's critically acclaimed release BEFORE THE ALBUM: a love letter to the moons of mars.
The Vancouver artist is unbound by genre, identifying with punk, electronic, and everything in between — and Before the Album 2: A Brief Overview is no exception with its mixed bag of music. The mixtape's lead single "WE HAD THE TIME OF OUR LIVES TOGETHER" with Lights wades into electro-pop waters while the songs on his latest release, double A-side single "I DARE YOU TO BREAK" and "ON THE 14TH" exist in a different sphere entirely. "I DARE YOU TO BREAK" exemplifies MAUVEY's versatility with an electro beat, alt-pop body, rap verse and heartwarming message all intertwined in the same song.
"Being vulnerable is hard, trusting is hard, some people won't ever get there without being dared to," said MAUVEY. "I know that's true for me. 'I DARE YOU TO BREAK' is a fun way of yelling. WHATEVER HAPPENS, I'M HERE WHEN YOU NEED ME."
MAUVEY most recently performed in Edmonton at the Electronic Music Showcase presented by Exclaim! as part of JUNOfest. Following the mixtape's release, he'll hit the road in the US with July Talk.
