Mars Volta Members Form Supergroup with Flea

The Mars Volta broke up just last year, but band founders Cedric Bixler-Zavala and Omar Rodriguez-Lopez have now launched a new supergroup along with former drummer Dave Elitch and Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea.

The band are called Antemasque, and very little information about them is currently available. They haven't formally released any material, and all that exists is a two-and-a-half-minute rehearsal video [via X Games/Prefix]. That can be seen below along with a 13-second teaser clip.

The rehearsal video includes some short snippets of music, although it mostly consists of studio chatter as Flea tells a story of how he acquired his bass.

Since the breakup of the Mars Volta, Rodriguez-Lopez has focused on his project Bosnian Rainbows and played with John Frusciante in Kimono Kult. Meanwhile, Bixler-Zavala formed a band called Zavalaz.

Given these musicians' prolific output, we're likely to hear from Antemasque again soon.
