Joining the ranks of high-profile Britney Spears defenders amid the pop star's conservatorship battle is Madonna, who has now spoken out against the conditions of Spears' 13-year arrangement and likened her situation to "slavery."
"Give this woman her life back," Madonna wrote in her Instagram stories last night (June 8). "Slavery was abolished so long ago! Death to the greedy patriarchy that has been doing this to women for centuries. This is a violation of human rights! Britney we coming to get you out of jail!"
Madonna's defence of the star comes following outcry from Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake, Courtney Love and members of the #FreeBritney movement.
Earlier this week, Spears' longtime manager Larry Rudolph announced his resignation, following news from her father Jamie's co-conservator, Bessemer Trust, which announced that it would be pulling out of the arrangement as well.
Despite Spears' emotional plea to a California judge to alter the terms of her conservatorship, her request to remove her father from the arrangement was shot down this month.
Spears is due back in court on July 14.
In June, Spears spoke out in court for the first time about the "abusive" arrangement. She alleged that under her father's control, she has been forced to take Lithium, wears an intrauterine contraceptive device, and is not allowed to make her own doctor's appointments, all of which has affected her mental health.
"I'm so angry I can't sleep, and I am depressed," she said in a virtual hearing. "I want to be heard. I want changes and I want changes going forward. I deserve changes."
