Christina Aguilera has joined the chorus of voices speaking out in support of Britney Spears, who last week spoke out publicly in her conservatorship battle with her father.

In a series of tweets posted yesterday evening (June 28), Aguilera offered support to her onetime Mickey Mouse Club peer. She called it "unacceptable that any woman, or human, wanting to be in control of their own destiny might not be allowed to live life as they wish."

She wrote that her opinion is based on media reports, and while she isn't privy to the conversations happening behind closed doors, "Every woman must have the right to her own body, her own reproductive system, her own privacy, her own space, her own healing and her own happiness."

Spears and Aguilera were once close associates, having achieved pop superstardom around the same time in the late '90s. Another of Spears' close allies from the time, her former boyfriend Justin Timberlake, also spoke out in support of the singer after her testimony in the conservatorship case.

Spears has been under her father's control as part of a conservatorship that has been in place for the last 13 years. She now says that she wants to regain control of her life, finances and legal representation, and that she is currently unable to become pregnant because she is forced to wear a intrauterine contraceptive device. She called the conservatorship "abusive" and said she wanted to sue her family.
