Mac DeMarco has a new album and his first-ever hit on the Billboard Hot 100 — although, ironically, the hit song doesn't come from the new album.
This weak, "Heart to Heart" has landed at Number 98 on the chart. The song comes from his 2019 album Here Comes the Cowboy, and it's become a viral TikTok hit. Unfortunately, the song isn't available for Canadian TikTok users, evidently due to some sort of copyright issue.
DeMarco's sudden viral popularity on TikTok is ironic, given comments he made to Exclaim! in a recent interview. Speaking about the low-key launch of the instrumental album Five Easy Hot Dogs, he said, "How indie rock looks nowadays? It's ridiculous! Everybody's just trying to squeeze a buck out of something. Like, 'Upload the sped-up version, so they use it on TikTok!' Have you no shame? It's crazy."
