Over two years ago, the reggae world lost one of its revolutionaries: Lee "Scratch" Perry died in the summer of 2021 after an immensely influential career spanning seven decades. Honouring his legacy, a posthumous album entitled King Perry has now been announced, led by the single "100lbs of Summer" featuring London R&B artist Greentea Peng.

The LP is due February 2 via False Idols, and the lead single arrives today alongside a remix by trip-hop stalwart Tricky, who also features on the album track "Future of My Music" with Marta, who could reasonably be assumed to be Polish singer (and frequent Tricky collaborator) Marta Złakowska. Other guest appearances are seen by jazz vocalist Rose Waite, English singer-songwriter/poet Shaun Ryder and Chinese-British avant-popster Fifi Rong.

Produced by Daniel Boyle, King Perry was recorded during the pandemic prior to Perry's death and is being called the visionary's final studio album. The closing track, "Goodbye," is said to be his last-ever recorded vocal performance. Per press materials, the record explores new territory — synthwave, DnB, electronica and big beat — because the late legend "wanted to do something new, something different but still with a dub framework."
