If you were looking for one of those rollercoaster sets from New Jersey house kingpin Kerri Chandler that wove between styles and was heavy on the past, Watergate 15 is going to be a disappointment.
That's not to say his contribution to the long running mix series misses the mark by far; by choosing to keep most of his selections from the past five or six years and not digging very deep, Chandler keeps his vision looking forward, not relying on the past to give his mix context. He may be focusing ahead, but he still relies on chunky, nostalgic sounding beats, simple synth chords and low-slung bass lines to get his message across. He contributes two of his own tracks to the mix, the acid-laced "Think of Something" and "Mama," whose emotion is carried by some sparse chords and an understated guitar loop.
Tracks like D'Julz's "Madness" (The Martinez Brothers Feat. Phil Weeks Edit), Nick Fanciulli remix of Subb-an's "This Place" and the free-flowing "Who Loves the Sun" by Nu anchor the vibe on the mix, but could come across as being too obvious given Chandler's rich history and background as one of house music's unwavering voices.
