Kelela is back with news of a live album, nearly a year after dropping RAVE:N, the Remixes, which itself came a year after 2023's shadowy RAVEN.
Arriving on February 11, In the Blue Light captures "a pivotal moment in [Kelela's] career." It was recorded in May of last year, when Kelela shared new arrangements of her catalogue in a series of intimate performances at New York City's legendary jazz club the Blue Note.
Today, we get to hear the spine-tingling "Better (unplugged)," which opens with Kelela telling the audience, "You better get your tissues." The album also includes a rendition of Joni Mitchell's "Furry Sings the Blues" and new arrangements of "Bankhead," "Take Me Apart," "All the Way Down" and more.
In the Blue Light was created in collaboration with Daniel Aged and features background vocals of Alayna Rogers and Xenia Manasseh.
