The Canadian government is firmly in its Swiftie era. After a couple of MPs floated the idea of filing a "parliamentary grievance" — it's okay if you don't know what that is, neither do they — over Taylor Swift skipping Canada on her Eras Tour, they're bringing in the big guns: Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has officially spoken out on the matter, practically begging the pop star to come to Brazil here.
Yesterday (July 5), Swift announced 14 new tour dates in Europe and the UK with Paramore. Once again, Canada was left on the shelf. Trudeau knew it was time he stepped in to defend the nation by replying to the singer-songwriter's tweet announcing the dates.
"It's me, hi," Trudeau began, because there is simply no other way. "I know places in Canada would love to have you. So, don't make it another cruel summer."
He added, "We hope to see you soon," for good measure.
If this somehow works (or doesn't, and mourning is required), you know you can catch Trudeau belting out "Cruel Summer" — one of Swift's best songs, in our humble opinion — in the hotel lobby.
