"Heartbroken and blindsided" as he felt last November upon being ousted from Slipknot, Jay Weinberg has now found a new drum throne to call home with Suicidal Tendencies.
Weinberg will make his debut with the group — which also features founding vocalist Mike Muir, lead guitarist Dean Pleasants, rhythm guitarist Ben Weinman (ex-Dillinger Escape Plan) and bassist Tye Trujillo — next week with a pair of Japanese performances.
Those dates will be followed by appearances at nascent Pomona, CA, punk fest No Values (featuring a reunited Power Trip) and a number of UK/European festival dates in the summer.
Sharing news of his latest gig on Instagram, Weinberg wrote in a statement, "When I think of the culture and community of heavy music that I've loved and considered my creative home for 20 years, I think of Suicidal Tendencies: a foundational pillar and source of inspiration ever since I fell in love with punk, metal, and hardcore.
"Having toured and played shows together all over the world, I've been so fortunate to become friends with my musical heroes who have been a part of this band's incredible history. It's an absolute honour and privilege to play with Suicidal Tendencies, and I can't wait to start this incredibly exciting new chapter in just one week! See you all in the pit!"
Later this month, Weinberg will drum for two California performances by a reunited Infectious Grooves. That group features vocalist Muir, guitarist Pleasants, Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo and guitarist Dave Kushner (ex-Velvet Revolver).
