Jim Cuddy Reimagines Blue Rodeo and Solo Songs on 'Countrywide Soul' Album

Listen to the new song "Back Here Again" now

Following last year's Constellation album and subsequent tour, Blue Rodeo frontman Jim Cuddy opted to capture his band's live energy on record. As such, the Jim Cuddy Band have made a new record called Countrywide Soul.

The release was produced in Cuddy's barn in Southern Ontario and attempts to capture the feel of the band's live show. That means they've covered tunes from throughout Cuddy's solo career, as well as some Blue Rodeo material. There are also versions of George Jones and Glen Campbell songs.

In a statement, Cuddy explained:

When we go into the studio to make records, the songs are born out of my imagination and the band contribute their incredible talents to make those ideas come to life. The songs evolve and become part of our collective imagination. But it is on tour that they really take flight. We are connected by art. We are connected by what we create together. That's what I wanted to capture on this record. How much I enjoy listening to the band reveal their imagination and add their creativity to the songs was really the inspiration. How vital that is to me. So as much as this is a musicians' record, it's really an example — if you're lucky — of what bands can create together.

Countrywide Soul will be released on May 31 via Warner Music Canada and can be pre-ordered here. Below, you'll find a stream of the brand new song "Back Here Again," as well as a trailer for the album.
