The White Stripes and the Black Eyed Peas are pretty much the same thing, right? Evidently one Jeopardy! contestant thinks so, since he mixed them up last night (May 22) as part of a question that no one got right.
During Double Jeopardy, one of the categories was Pop Culture 2003. The $16,000 clue was, "I'm going to Wichita to tell you Spin Magazine's top album of the year was their Elephant." Joe, an astronautical engineer hailing from Colfax, IL, guessed, "What is Black Eyed Peas." After this incorrect guess, no one chimed in, leaving it to host Mayim Bialik to name the White Stripes as the correct answer (or rather, the correct question).
It's actually not a terrible guess: in 2003, just a couple of months after the White Stripes released Elephant, the Black Eyed Peas released their album Elephunk (featuring the songs "Where Is the Love?" and "Let's Get It Started").
Jeopardy! contestants historically aren't great with musical clues. Just a couple of months ago, no one was familiar with Bright Eyes.
