Ice Cube to Play Scrooge in 'A Christmas Carol' Adaptation

BY Josiah HughesPublished Sep 17, 2015

For a man with such a chilly moniker, we're a little surprised that Ice Cube hasn't done more Christmas movies. Sure, 2002's Friday After Next brought us "xmas in the hood," but we still feel like the freezer-friendly rapper turned actor could do more with the genre. Thankfully, our holiday wishes have been answered, as he's now slated to appear in a new version of A Christmas Carol.

As Deadline reports, the new film is called Humbug, and offers a modern retelling of the Dickens classic.

In the new movie, Ice Cube will play a real estate mogul who's eventually taught the folly of his ways, thanks to the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future. Hopefully they're sticking with a hip-hop theme throughout, because we'd love to see Migos take on the ghosts.

Humbug was the subject of a four studio bidding war, with Universal eventually beating out MGM, New Line and Disney. The film is expected to land in 2017.
