Halifax-based singer-songwriter Heather Green is about to drop her latest EP Clementine, but before it officially lands later this week, Exclaim! is giving you an early listen to the new album in its entirety.
Green originally hails from the warmer, sunnier, West Coast of California, but has found herself a new home in the tight-knit musical community of Nova Scotia. Enlisting producer Daniel Ledwell (Jenn Grant, the Fortunate Ones); local artists like Stuart Legere, Kim Harris and Margot Durling; and her backing band Young River, Green has crafted an EP of songs that draw inspiration from both her current surroundings, as well as from international acts like First Aid Kit, Boy and Ingrid Michaelson.
The result is a lush and layered sound that blends the best of pop, folk and rock together into a palatable and captivating set of new songs. The previously heard "Wild Ones" shows off a dreamy side to the singer, while "Say Whatcha Say" takes things down a darker path. It's followed by a throwback to the doo-wop era, "Time," while "Last Leg" continues the soulful streak before the EP ends off on a more traditional folksy note thanks to the title track.
You can hear the entire genre-jumping collection in the player below before Clementine is officially released on September 11.
