Hear the Week's Best New Canadian Music: Ellyn Woods, daysormay, Wolf Castle

BY Exclaim! StaffPublished Aug 6, 2021

While Team Canada continues to wrack up Olympic medals in Tokyo, we too are displaying impressive feats of athleticism to bring you another weekly round-up of new CanCon.

August is ushering in a boatload of new homegrown tunes. We've got a big new single from the Weeknd— who is apparently going to feature on Kanye West's DONDA, whenever the album actually comes out — called "Take My Breath," the return of Justin Nozuka, Big Wreck and Purity Ring, as well as a brooding synthpop slice from Montreal-based Ellyn Woods and a heater from Vancouver trio daysormay.

In this week's new albums, Mi'kmaq rapper Wolf Castle (who recently showed us his favourite concert poster) dropped his EP Da Vinci's Inquest today, as did Métis artist Terez with Sad Girl Summer. METZ also released a live album, recorded at the Opera House in Toronto. It's not here quite yet, but Charlotte Cornfield has shared the lead single for her forthcoming new record, Highs in the Minuses.

Toeing the line of being considered Canadian, we have a Blood Orange remix of Beverly Glenn-Copeland's "Sunset Village." In collaborations, we have the collision of Montreal duo Silk Tonic (no, not Silk Sonic, but close enough?) and Toronto's the Free Label, alongside the Glorious Sons' Jay Emmons' new project with tour manager Michelle Owens called Harlette. Hamilton's Basement Revolver — and Exclaim! Class Of grads— have a subdued new single, as does recent New Faves alum, Maky Lavender.

Start off the new month at the top of the podium with the fresh sounds of The Eh! List below, presented by Mary Brown's Chicken & Taters — all Canadian and proud of it!
