Matthew McConaughey stars in an upcoming film about the 1993 Bre-X mining scandal called Gold, and just a day after the movie's red band trailer arrived online, the titular theme song is here.
As previously reported, "Gold" hears punk icon Iggy Pop teaming up with producer Danger Mouse, blending instrumentation that sounds like it's straight out of an old-school Western with Pop's deep, gravelly drawl.
"In the studio, he very assiduously and energetically directed the vocal, which is what I want when you're working with a producer," Pop told Rolling Stone, speaking about the collaborative process. "Phrasing, intonation, vowel pronunciation — a lot of stuff like that. Little by little, the thing kept getting better and more conversational and less sing-songy."
Below, you can hear the result of the pair's studio time together and watch the recently revealed red band trailer for the film. Gold will get a wide theatrical release on January 27.
