Hamilton, ON's homegrown "it's-metal-to-care" doom duo Vile Creature have released a wicked new remix of fellow Canadian Backxwash's 2020 track "Spells."
Taken from Ashanti Mutinta's God Has Nothing to Do with This Leave Him Out of It, the rework of the track — titled "Vilexspells" — blends the artists' heavy palettes seamlessly while maintaining the original's witchy aura.
The duo wrote in a statement:
Backxwash's 2020 album God Has Nothing to Do With This Leave Him Out of It was a gamechanger, raw and honest hip-hop with a distinct and punishing metal influence. "Spells" was a highlight song for us and in celebration of her new album coming out on 20 June, 2021 we went into Boxcar Sound Studios in Hamilton, ON, and put our spin on this blistering 2 minute missive.
Coinciding with Bandcamp's second annual Juneteenth revenue share-waiving initiative, all proceeds from the sale of "Vilexspells" through the music retailer will benefit the Hamilton Centre for Civic Inclusion, a racial equity organization "dedicated to making Hamilton an inclusive city."
Backxwash's I Lie Here Buried with My Rings and My Dresses is due to arrive this Sunday (June 20). Read Exclaim!'s 9/10 review of the album here.
