The Grammys are just a few days away, but the show has been forced to edit its lineup of performers after one of the world's biggest stars has backed out — and another has signed on.
Ariana Grande reportedly withdrew from her heavily promoted performance, following a disagreement with the awards show's producers. However, Lady Gaga, as well as several other artists, has now been added to the list of performers.
According to Variety, Grande wanted to sing her latest single "7 rings" (which is currently the No. 1 track on Billboard charts), but producers asked her to perform something else.
They reportedly came to a compromise with "7 rings" to be performed as part of a medley, but when producers insisted on selecting the second song, Grande walked. A source told Variety that the same stipulations were not imposed on other artists.
Grande is now no longer expected to even attend the ceremony, where she's nominated for two awards.
Last year, the Grammys came under fire for not allowing Lorde to perform a song solo from her Album of the Year-nominated record Melodrama. She was the only woman nominated in the category, and all other nominees were offered their own slots onstage.
The backlash caused former Recording Academy Neil Portnow to call on women to "step up" if they wanted the same recognition as male artists. He subsequently announced plans to step down — but will remain in the position until July 2019.
Despite Grande walking out on the ceremony, the Grammys confirmed this morning that Lady Gaga has been added to the list of performers. This year, she's nominated for five Grammys for the A Star Is Born song "Shallow" and "Joanne (Where Do You Think You're Goin'?)" Gaga previously performed at the Grammys in 2016 as part of a David Bowie tribute. She also joined Metallica for a collaborative performance in 2018.
In addition to Lady Gaga, other new confirmed performers include Chloe x Halle, Mark Ronson and Travis Scott. Additionally, Dua Lipa will perform St. Vincent, while Yolanda Adams, Fantasia and Andra Day will honour the late Aretha Franklin.
