Extra Golden Thank You Very Quickly With New Album

BY Brock ThiessenPublished Feb 11, 2009

Cross-continental Thrill Jockey outfit and Obama super-fans Extra Golden have finished up album number three, giving it a title, release date and all that other good stuff.

For said title, the band are calling their latest collection of grooves Thank You Very Quickly and have named March 10 as the album's release date. Apparently, this record was crafted in the wake of some rather heavy political and economic upheaval in Kenya, the homeland of the band's Otieno Jagwasi and Onyango Wuod Omari, but nevertheless, the press release promises Extra Golden have kept their love for joyous dance anthems intact.

This follow-up to 2007's Hera Ma Nono was recorded in one day, with the group laying down the tracks in the third-floor hallway/laundry room of guitarist Ian Eagleson's parents' house. But despite this less than ideal studio situation, the band says, "tight quarters = tight grooves," with the album bringing back many of those old recording elements found in the pre-digital age.

And if you're at all wondering about that title, Thank You Very Quickly, it's to give some humble thanks to all the Extra Golden fans who responded to the band's plea to donate money to keep the group's families alive and well amidst the post-election violence that erupted in Kenya in early 2008. Now, how polite is that?

In support of the new record, Extra Golden have a number of live dates lined up, including several in the U.S. and as part of the prestigious African Soul Rebels tour in the UK, where they'll play with Oliver Mtukudzi and Baaba Maal. However, no dates are scheduled yet for Canada.
