Elisapie will be celebrated with a new stamp from Canada Post, arriving on National Indigenous Peoples Day (June 21).
UPDATE (6/14, 3:35 p.m. ET): Canada Post has unveiled the stamp. See it below.
As part of the Crown corp's Indigenous Leaders stamp series, the award-winning singer-songwriter, director, producer and activist from Salluit, Nunavik, in Northern Quebec, will receive the honour alongside the late environmentalist Josephine Mandamin and visual artist Christi Belcourt.
Per Canada Post, the three will be celebrated "in recognition of their environmental advocacy and championing the rights and cultures of their Inuit, First Nations and Métis communities."
Elisapie will have her stamp unveiled alongside family friends in Montreal on June 13, with a ceremony held at the McCord Stewart Museum. All three stamps will then be available in Canada Post locations as of June 21.
With her 2023 album Inuktitut, Elisapie captured the 2024 JUNO Award for Contemporary Indigenous Artist or Group of the Year.
Exclaim! recently named Elisapie among Five Must-See Acts at the Ottawa Jazz Festival 2024.
