Beyoncé Scrapped a Fela Kuti-Inspired Album, The-Dream Says

If rumours are to be believed, pop megastar Beyoncé is currently working on a top-secret collaborative album with her hubby Jay Z. Here's hoping it sees the light of day. After all, in a new interview, The-Dream revealed that he and Bey once worked on an entire album that has since been scrapped.

Annotating the lyrics to Beyoncé's "End of Time" on Genius.com, The-Dream explained that he made a whole album with Beyoncé that was inspired by the sounds of Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti.

"We did a whole Fela album that didn't go up," he said, explaining that it took place about five years ago. "It was right before we did 4. We did a whole different sounding thing, about twenty songs. She said she wanted to do something that sounds like Fela."

It's an intriguing album idea, to be sure, but we shouldn't hold our breath to hear it one day. After all, the producer said it's common practice for Beyoncé to scrap material.

"There's always multiple albums being made," he said. "Most of the time we're just being creative, period. We're talking about B, somebody who sings all day long and somebody who writes all day long. There's probably a hundred records just sitting around."
