Indie-pop quartet Dizzy have returned with new music. The Oshawa, ON-based band have released "Birthmark" alongside a new music video.

Singer Katie Munshaw laments the aftermath of lost love over lilting guitar and drum beats in the new release for Royal Mountain Records. "The song is from the point of view of someone I love who went through their first heartbreak last year," said Munshaw. "I remember we were laying in bed one night and they said they didn't feel so bad until it was time to go to sleep. I thought that was so sad."

The music video, directed by frequent collaborator boy wonder, also acts as an indictment against appearance standards in the music industry as Munshaw conceals her face with a multicoloured, metallic mask. "I'm a very anxious and sensitive person," she explained. "Thinking about taking a bunch of photos and videos of myself, especially after two years in isolation, felt a bit shocking and scary, and like something I didn't really want to do."

The new single comes out just two months after the band broke their two-year hiatus from releasing original music with November's "Barking Dog." Their latest studio album, The Sun and Her Scorch, arrived in 2020. The band have yet to announce a follow-up.
