Strokes-looking rock-boy band -- albeit without Albert Hammond, Jr.'s razor sharp guitar -- with more per capita denim than an alt-country conference, Dinosaur Bones are in danger of falling into Tangiers -- remember them? -- territory (i.e. locally popular, promising start, but with a limited range and a shelf life). Nevertheless, drawing on the packed hometown crowd's Friday night energy (the best type of weekend energy), the band played a mostly amped-up gig, including a harrowing rendition of "N.Y.E." Sporadic slowdowns threatened to kill the mood, but driving bass lines and down-the-road rock kept things largely energetic.
