DIIV

Lee's Palace, Toronto ON June 15

Like an order of McNuggets, Brooklyn's DIIV was better big (to hell with the six-pack). The Brooklyn foursome began as Zachary Cole Smith's bedroom project and the live show can still occasionally drift into vacuum territory, the band playing more for one another than the audience. At the outset of their Lee's appearance, the beach gazers resolved to play their record in order and launched into a perfectly likable, occasionally danceable set full of echo-laden vocals, growing breakdowns, plenty of sunshine, and some of the most per capita hair flailing of the festival.
