Daniel Romano is best known as a folk/country troubadour, but he's resurrecting his punk-rock project Ancient Shapes for a new album. Silent Rave marks the band's second full-length, and it's due out October 5 via You've Changed Records.
It was previously released as a tour-only cassette and stream, and marks the follow-up to 2016's Ancient Shapes.
The new batch of songs is described as "a collection of raw, lucid poems, exploring various crevasses of love, the natural world, and also more love."
Power pop instrumentation is paired with Romano's shrieking vocals — a far cry from his twangy folk stuff.
The first track to arrive from the new record is called "Giant Comma," and it's been given the music video treatment.
"This video was made to visually accompany the sentiments of giant comma," Romano tells Exclaim! "The world itself revolting against the heinous behaviours of its 'smartest' inhabitants. The feeling that, whether we find ourselves fighting it, ignoring it, or denying it, it is in fact there, just on the other side of a giant comma."
The clip was directed, shot and edited by Romano himself. Scroll past Ancient Shapes' upcoming live shows to check out the final product down below.
Tour dates:

08/24 Montreal, QC – Brasserie Beaubien
