As on-brand as ever, Courtney Love spent her hour on the WTF with Marc Maron Podcast bouncing between multiple stories. While detailing many different scenarios across the span of her life, she made sure to credit Lana Del Rey as the only "true musical genius" besides her late husband Kurt Cobain.
Calling the singer "an actual true, great friend," Love went on to praise Del Rey with the highest accolades possible in her own mind. "Lana and Kurt are the only two true musical geniuses I've ever known, and by that I mean they can Spielberg anything."
She continued: "She's a genius, too. She's got the integrity that Kurt had. The only two people I know that I can say… By the way, [Michael] Stipe? Bono? Yes, these are people that I know and love. Billie Joe, sure. But Lana? She's got a magic thing. And she's not even fucked up!"
Love also credits herself with getting Del Rey into Joni Mitchell's music, which she says contributed to Lana "changing her whole fucking thing."
She explained, "My boomer rock critic friends are calling after Norman Rockwell, 'Hey your friend, she's pretty good.' And I said to her, 'Welcome to the Thunderdome, Ms. Del Rey.' Even Springsteen! He goes, 'She's our greatest songwriter.'"
Over the length of the episode, Love also talks about her new album, which she insists isn't a rock album "because people aren't really doing rock anymore … rock's not a thing." She also brought up her dad giving her LSD when she was four years old, how she likes the first three Coldplay albums and trying to convince Kanye West to have dinner with "the Democrat power."
