Former Quest for Fire members Andrew Moszynski and Chad Ross are back in the psych game with new project Comet Control, who have their self-titled debut coming our way May 20 through Tee Pee Records. Ahead of the street date, though, the Toronto unit are previewing the platter with a supernova of a space rock track they call "Ultra Bright."
All sorts of echo effects are slathered onto the arrangement, from tambourine taps to Ross's cloudy and calm vocals, but the band bring up the fuzz soon enough as the track hurtles off into the stratosphere. Playing true to Quest for Fire's rock roots, the band bust out a number of finger-flittin' riffs and booming rhythms before the song comes to its organ-saturated close.
"After Quest for Fire broke up, Andrew and I still had a lot of songs in the works," Ross said of forming his current act. "We are very excited about how things turned out. Everything clicked really fast with the new band, and the songs have taken a step in a fresh, new direction."
