One of Lawnya Vawnya's traditions is the downtown music crawl, where selected artists showcase a few songs in local shops that don't normally (or ever) function as music venues.

Mother Nature showed a little mercy on Thursday's 2018 edition, leaving a group of 40 or so people to stroll through downtown St. John's under the sun with coffees in hand. Bernice (who just put out a new record) started the crawl at Model Citizens with an intimate and ethereal set, and songwriter Greta Warner charmed Broken Books with a tune about Lindsay Weir from Freaks and Geeks.

Un Blonde benefited from an inspired venue choice at Tval Skincare, surrounded by softness and bright green plants, belting out minimalist soul. Clairmont The Second (pictured) riled everyone up at the back room at Relic, taking advantage of the most participatory crowd of 40 people in the back of a clothing store at one in the afternoon maybe ever, complete with a lot of bouncing and energetic shout-alongs.

And Fredericton's Jane Blanchard silenced the busy Rocket Bakery, standing in a delightfully sunlit window dressed with bright fake flowers and delivering brooding, spacious songs that floated through the air along with the scent of fresh coffee.
