Clairmont The Second has delivered a new EP. You can hear the Toronto artist's fresh Full Circle in the player below.
Arriving today via his own GRAiN Inc., Full Circle follows Clairmont's 2020 LP It's Not How It Sounds, which was long listed for the 2021 Polaris Music Prize and also earned him SOCAN Songwriting Prize and Prism Prize nominations last year. The EP also comes after the artist delivered a trio of 2021 singles: "no u don't," "intres-ting" and "mi pce."
The four-song effort is packed with Clairmont's expectedly bright bars and considered production, with highlights including the gripping lyrical picture-painting of "The Job," the savoury vocal arrangements of the slow-simmering "Hood Gourmet," the compositional ambition of "Backinluv" and those crucial keyboards he told Exclaim! about on "Doin' Right."
As is the constant, Full Circle was produced, mixed and mastered entirely by Clairmont himself, while the EP's cover art comes courtesy of right hand visual collaborator Aysha "Beee" Brown. Billed as "A Prelude" in its Bandcamp description, it's clear the artist has more in store for listeners.
Thanking listeners in a note shared on Twitter, Clairmont shared, "I've had to do a lot of healing in all aspects of my life. It ultimately resulted in a rebirth. I had to get back to the root of why I do what I do. I had to kill bad habits. I lost my direction. Damn near lost my mind. It was not easy getting back to where I need to be. It takes work, discipline, and willpower."
Full Circle can be heard in the players below, and is available for purchase in CD and 10-inch vinyl editions via the artist's official website.
This month, Clairmont The Second is due to play his first show in Toronto since 2019, at the Drake Underground on August 25. Tickets are now available for purchase.
