CAIRO

'A History of Reasons' (album stream)

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Jan 14, 2015

Toronto indie rock crew CAIRO have been gaining momentum over the last few months, teasing the release of their debut LP A History of Reasons. We've already seen the video for the title track, but now the band have offered up the whole album to stream right here on Exclaim.ca.

Awash in reverb-heavy guitars, soft vocals and string accompaniment courtesy of Caitlin Grieve's violin, the new collection of songs experiments with sound, while retaining familiar elements of the folk, pop and rock we all know and love.

The album was recorded last year with producer Nygel Asselin (Half Moon Run, Air Marhsal Landing), who managed to fully capture the band's "ambitious sound."

Sparkling indie pop numbers like "With You" are juxtaposed with quieter, folk-inspired numbers like "Render," "Starry Eyes" and "Seventeen." Others like "Kingdoms" and "Extinguishing Fires" lean towards good, old-fashioned rock'n'roll, making for an album that delivers a seamless blend of different sounds.

A History of Reasons arrives on January 20 through MapleMusic Recordings, but you can hear it a week early in the player below.
