"We were kids when we came up with it"

Producer Parker Corey and rapper Nathaniel Ritchie announced last month that they would be retiring the name Injury Reserve following the death of their third member Jordan Groggs in 2020

They said all new music would be released under their new name, By Storm, "to respect the specificity of all three of us as Injury Reserve." Today they have shed some more light on the motivation behind the name change.

In a podcast for FADER, Corey explained, "It felt like the most gentle handoff. It's kind of a confusing band name too, which I don't mind. I think confusing is good, for the most part, because everything is talking down to you like you're a baby now."

Ritchie added, "The cards were laid out for us. No one was thinking about anything else. While people have always loved the IR name, we've felt — maybe just because we were kids when we came up with it — like maybe it didn't fit us."
