Brutal Truth

For the Ugly and Unwanted: This Is Grindcore

BY Denise FalzonPublished Nov 11, 2009

After a decade-long hiatus, seminal grindcore outfit Brutal Truth have re-emerged onto the extreme metal scene with incredible force. Earlier this year, the resurrected band released highly anticipated new record Evolution Through Revolution. Now, the NYC grinders have unleashed For the Ugly and Unwanted: This Is Grindcore, their first-ever DVD, which includes both recent and old live footage. The disc's main feature is the band's full set from the Obscene Extreme Festival 2007 in the Czech Republic, which was shot with five cameras, providing quickly cut shots entwined together to supply a visual representation of the chaotic atmosphere Brutal Truth are known for. The DVD also contains four more full shows from their '97/'98 Sounds of the Animal Kingdom tour. This old footage sees Brutal Truth in their rawest and most energetic form, while the more recent footage illustrates that they're back and they've still got it. With performances of tunes like "Birth of Ignorance," "Turn Face" and tracks from 1996's Kill Trend Suicide, this DVD shows Danny Lilker and company in their finest and most visceral form.
