Mortality is a recurring theme for Amy Millan (Stars, Broken Social Scene), alongside matters of the heart and the liver, so it was fitting that she and Dan Whiteley opened the show with an a cappella traditional about love and death. Her band was joined by members of Stars and the Stills, their assembled spread of guitars and horns supporting her ever-lovely vocals and a sound fusing country and genteel pop. The set included a handful of covers - a song by Richard Hawley had to be reprised as she forgot the lyrics on the first attempt - but Millan's well-known way with tunes made her own compositions the highlights.
