The world really has become Dan Levy's oyster ever since Schitt's Creek rewired brains everywhere as a wholesome sitcom tour-de-force. He's now set to make his feature-length directorial debut with the new Netflix film Good Grief.

Despite notable appearances in Netflix's Sex Education, HBO's The Idol and Disney's Haunted Mansion, Good Grief is the first project Levy has spearheaded after Schitt's ended in 2020. In addition to directing and starring in the dramedy, he also wrote the screenplay.

Levy plays Marc, a children's book illustrator living in London who is happily married to charismatic novelist Oliver (Luke Evans), despite the fact that he often feels overshadowed by his partner's success. When Oliver suddenly dies on the night of the couple's annual Christmas party, Marc spends the next year in the throes of grief, inspiring a trip to Paris with his two closest friends, Sophie (Ruth Negga) and Thomas (Himesh Patel), while coping with the tragic loss.

"Good Grief is a cautionary tale about friendship and loss and all the mess that comes with it when the truth is something you've evaded for most of your life," Levy said in a statement. "It's funny, it's bittersweet, it's a project that has helped me work through my own grief. And I hope it does the same for other people as well."

The film is streaming starting January 6. Watch the trailer, set to Phoebe Bridgers's 2018 cover of "The Gold" by Manchester Orchestra, below.
