An unofficial prequel to the popular Harry Potter film series has arrived online. Titled Voldemort: Origins of the Heir, the 50-minute flick delves into the backstory of the series' infamous villain.

The plot follows the story of Grisha McLaggen, who leads the hunt for Tom Riddle after the heir of Hufflepuff is murdered. Fans of the book and film series will, of course, recognize Riddle as the troubled teen who eventually becomes the titular dark wizard.

Voldemort: Origins of the Heir was initially teased with a Kickstarter campaign back in 2016, but was pulled due to copyright claims from Warner Bros. director Gianmaria Pezzato. Tryangle Films eventually struck a deal with the production giants last year, however, gaining permission to release the project on a not-for-profit basis.

The next officially sanctioned Harry Potter production will arrive in theatres later this year, with the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them sequel The Crimes of Grindelwald.

In the meantime, watch Voldemort: Origins of the Heir in the player below. At least it doesn't star Johnny Depp.
