As TIFF marches on with its red carpets and film screenings, its organizers have been hard at work behind the scenes, teaming up with the Korean Film Council (KOFIC) and CJ Cultural Foundation to set up a fund for new Korean-Canadian and Korean-American filmmakers.

The initiative labelled the K-Story Fund will use $30,000 annually to support three creative teams working on their first or second feature film. Selected participants will also receive one-on-one mentorship with a focus on story development from the CJ Cultural Foundation.

TIFF's Chief Programming Officer Anita Lee commented on the importance of the fund in a press release.

"TIFF's collaboration with CJ Cultural Foundation and KOFIC is a groundbreaking initiative providing support for filmmakers from diasporic communities," she said. "By supporting these storytellers in their early journeys, we are building cultural bridges and shaping the future of our industries."

Eligible filmmakers can begin applying this November, and the recipients will be announced in 2024.
