Viggo Mortensen had some high praise for the TIFF crowds while in town promoting his new movie The Dead Don't Hurt this week.

The Lord of the RingsGreen Book and Captain Fantastic actor was on the red carpet in Toronto talking to film discovery social network Letterboxd. As per their shtick, Editor Ella Kemp asked him what his four favourite movies are.

Mortensen refused to reply, claiming that he would need more time to deliberate and deliver an appropriate list (of four, 40 or 400). Instead, he took the opportunity to express his love for the audiences at TIFF.

"It sounds like Letterboxd is perfect for the TIFF audience, because they're very discerning," he said. "They're the best audiences to have a screening for, really, because they're really eager to see good films. They're also generous, they're receptive and you always find that, when you do a Q&A with a TIFF audience, something special happens."

Mortensen was able to be at TIFF despite the SAG-AFTRA strikes since The Dead Don't Hurt — which he starred in, directed, wrote and co-produced — received an interim agreement as an independent production without a distributor.
