Days following the tragic death of Friends star Matthew Perry, his former cast mates have spoken out about his "unfathomable" loss.

"We are all so utterly devastated by the loss of Matthew," Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer said in a joint statement to People yesterday (October 30). "We were more than just cast mates. We are a family. There is so much to say, but right now we're going to take a moment to grieve and process this unfathomable loss."

The statement continued, "In time we will say more, as and when we are able. For now, our thoughts and our love are with Matty's family, his friends, and everyone who loved him around the world."

This collaborative message, signed by Aniston, Cox, Kudrow, LeBlanc and Schwimmer, is the first time any of the core sitcom cast has responded publicly to the news of Perry's death.

Homages to the actor, who was found dead at 54 in his hot tub on Saturday (October 28), have poured in across the internet, with comedian Hank Azaria revealing that Perry helped him get sober and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau fondly remembering their time in school together.

The Los Angeles County coroner has deferred declaring a cause of death after an initial investigation, saying that it may take weeks to determine.
