Last January, we learned that the John Wick universe was eyeing a move from the big screen to television. A year on, the series has been revealed to currently be in development.
As The Hollywood Reporter points out, John Wick studio Starz made the announcement today at the Television Critics Association's winter press tour. Titled The Continental, the series is set in the John Wick universe and is centred on the exclusive Continental Hotel, an establishment serving as a place of refuge for assassins.
THR notes that Chris Collins (Sons of Anarchy, The Wire, Man in the High Castle) will write the script and serve as showrunner should the show move forward. Many who worked on the original film will also lend a hand with the series as executive producers, including Chad Stahelski, David Leitch and Keanu Reeves. Reeves is also set to appear in the series, but will not star.
"This series is truly unlike anything else on TV," Starz CEO Chris Albrecht told the site. "The Continental promises to include the thunderous fight sequences and intensely staged shootouts between professional assassins and their targets that fans have come to expect in the John Wick movie franchise as well as introduce some new, darkly compelling characters who inhabit this underground world."
