Seth Meyers has responded to recent comments by Julia Louis-Dreyfus about the sexist culture at Saturday Night Live when she worked there in the '80s.
The late-night talk show host appeared on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen last night (December 10) and was asked about Louis-Dreyfus's recent remarks.
"I think I worked there at a much better time," Meyers said. "I think part of that was when I started on the show, Tina Fey was head writer and there were a lot of strong women at the show who were in positions of power, and I think they just laid out a much better framework for that to not be an issue, so I was lucky."
Meyers started at SNL in 2001 and was head writer from 2005 until 2014.
His comments followed Louis-Dreyfus's remarks about her time at SNL from 1982 to 1985.
She told Stephen Colbert recently, "There were plenty of people on the show who were incredibly funny. But I was unbelievably naive and I didn't really understand how the dynamics of the place worked. It was very sexist, very sexist. People were doing crazy drugs at the time. I was oblivious. I just thought, 'Oh wow. He's got a lot of energy.'"
