Woolworm

'Deserve to Die' (album stream)

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Aug 18, 2017

Following back-to-back EPs Everything Seems Obvious and Vampirism last year, Vancouver outfit Woolworm are nearly ready to drop their latest LP Deserve to Die — and Exclaim! is giving you an exclusive early listen to the album in its entirety.

The 10-track offering hears the band merging their hardcore roots with more pop-leaning tendencies, all under the guidance of producer Jesse Gander at Rain City Recorders in their shared hometown.

As frontman Giles Roy previously explained, the new set of songs addresses "loss, regret, alienation and acceptance" — as well as death.

Nevertheless, the record hears the band toying with the juxtaposition of dark subject matter and brighter sounds. "You'll find yourself singing along in the sunshine, then you'll contemplate the tragedy that is human existence as the leaves begin to turn," a press release adds.

You can hear that contrast for yourself right now by streaming Deserve to Die in the player below. The LP is officially out August 25 via Mint Records, and Woolworm have a long string of Canadian dates coming up in support of the album. You can see their schedule below.
