Over the last few years, the Wooden Sky have consistently impressed us with their rootsy folk rock sound. Now, the Toronto-based outfit are getting ready to usher in the next chapter of their career as they prepare to release their third full-length. Evocatively titled Every Child a Daughter, Every Moon a Sun, it's due out February 28 on Black Box Recordings.
The album was partly written during a winter band retreat to a cottage near Georgian Bay in Ontario. In a press release, singer Gavin Gardiner explained that "everyone had their eyes and ears open searching for new textures to play with."
This mindset resulted in a productive session, as the frontman notes, "What began as a simple collection of nine songs quickly ballooned into an 18-song opus; 13 songs ended up making the record. It did come dangerously close to being a double album."
The album was largely cut at Montreal's famed Hotel 2 Tango studio with Howard Bilerman and Radwan Ghazi Moumneh. Additional recording was also done in various homes, churches and farms.
Every Child a Daughter, Every Moon a Sun comes hot on the heels of Wooden Sky's recent City of Light EP, which you can stream at the bottom of the page, as well as the band's recent yuletide number for the Ho Ho Ho Canada III compilation.
To promote Every Child a Daughter, Every Moon a Sun, the Wooden Sky will be embarking on an extensive North American tour from February to April of next year. Of course, there is are more than a few Canadian dates.
