The Who

Live at the Isle of Wight Festival 1970

BY Sam SutherlandPublished Feb 19, 2007

This wonderfully shot concert film succeeds in capturing all the energy of the Who during this astoundingly creative period in their career. Roughly a year after the release of Tommy and a year before the monumental Who’s Next, this 85-minute set draws heavily from the former record, with an abridged performance of the rock opera composing the entire second half. The band’s blistering take on songs like "I Can’t Explain” and "Summertime Blues” are made better by the sight of Keith Moon’s absolute insanity, as he pretends to quit the band mid-set before insisting the entire crowd be silent for the beginning of Tommy’s overture.
