Watch Papa Roach Bring a Wall of Death, a Saxophone and Family to Their 'Ego Trip' Release Show

Last night, Papa Roach took over a Shakey's Pizza restaurant in Los Angeles to celebrate the release of eleventh studio outing Ego Trip. Yes, there is a "Cut my life into pieces/pizzas" joke in there somewhere, but more importantly, it seems this was a show not to be missed if the fan-shot footage is any indication.

The first order of business, as shown in the footage captured by LA's KROQ-FM, was to prime the crowd with a wall of death — the popular mosh move in which the audience is split in two halves, before running recklessly towards each other at the vocalist's command.

Clearly, frontman Jacoby Shaddix was up the to task, guiding his bandmates into "Blood Brothers" by addressing the crowd, "Over here, we got some savages, you fuckin' ready? My evil side over here, you ready to set it off? Oh shit…this one goes out to anybody that used to play Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2. Let's get it on…"

Later on in the set, Papa Roach gave their faithful a taste of their latest LP with "Swerve." While the album version features Fever 333 and Sueco, the Thursday evening release party saw the band line up alongside Funny Man from Hollywood Undead and composer/actor Spencer Nezey on tenor saxophone. While Nezey ultimately didn't give in to the temptation to play through sax staple "Careless Whisper," Shaddix took time to share a short story of how he discovered Nezey's talents on the horn.

Towards the end of the evening, the Papa Roach frontman got to play proud papa by welcoming his son Brixton onstage for a vocal assist on "Stand Up," before capping the set with the inimitable "Last Resort" featuring TikTok star Jeris Johnson, who collaborated with the band on "Last Resort (Reloaded)" early last year.

Whether a release party venue or not, chain restaurants have been the backdrop of some indelible moments in recent music history — Marilyn Manson getting his shit rocked, wonderfully destructive DIY shows and Lana Del Rey album announcements among them — and Papa Roach's Ego Trip release looks and feels like another.
