Earlier this year, it was reported that Britney Spears — now freed from conservatorship — could be gearing up to make new music, and she may want to give Montreal's Growlers Choir a call based on their roaring rendition of her chart-topping smash "Toxic."
Growlers Choir, a vocal ensemble self-described as "13 howling demons," performed a medley of Spears' single and "O fortuna" from Carl Orff's cantata Carmina Burana yesterday (June 28) during an audition for Season 17 of America's Got Talent.
As you'll see from the audition tape below, host Terry Crews and judges Simon Cowell, Howie Mandel, Heidi Klum and Sofia Vergara were initially shocked at what they were hearing. Despite Klum wasting little time reaching for the X buzzer, the panel and audience soon embraced the ensemble's undeniable skill.
Cowell called the group's performance "so fantastically creepy," while Vergara admitted the "very spectacular and creative" performance transported her to a world "with dragons, or vampires or something." Fellow Canadian Mandel applauded Growlers Choir for "opening the eyes and the ears of America on our stage."
Founded by composer and conductor Pierre-Luc Senécal in 2018, Growlers Choir can be seen live in concert July 9 at Montreal's Foufounes Electriques.
